Daisy Inclusive UK
Everton, Liverpool UK
This transformative project unfolded in two distinct phases, each with a compelling vision to revitalise the existing sports area and make it more inclusive. Phase 1 centred on the refurbishment of an ageing Multi-Use Sports Area, aiming to incorporate features that would cater to a diverse range of disability sports. In Phase 2, we undertook the ambitious task of designing, supplying, and installing an inclusive running track and tennis court on previously unusable terrain, breathing new life into the space.
Daisy Inclusive UK, a commendable charity based in Liverpool, is dedicated to providing a haven for local individuals with disabilities, offering not just a physical space but also an array of activities. Faced with an ageing tarmac court, their aspirations were nothing short of extraordinary: to pioneer a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) in the UK that would seamlessly accommodate a multitude of disability sports. Collaborating closely with the client and our esteemed Disability Sports Expert, we embarked on a journey to conceptualise and bring to life a truly exceptional facility. This innovative space not only fulfilled the diverse needs of disability sports but also introduced a specialised artificial turf, rigorously tested for wheelchair use. Notably, it marked the installation of the UK’s inaugural permanent outdoor Boccia court—a milestone of inclusivity.
The crown jewel of the project was the creation of a 20m x 10m Inclusive MUGA, purposefully designed to encompass a wide range of inclusive sports. From Inclusive Zone Basketball to the pioneering first outdoor Boccia court in the UK, and even accommodating visually impaired football and cricket, this MUGA was poised to set a new standard for inclusive recreation.
Furthermore, to maximise the use of previously challenging terrain, characterised by its steep slope, we embarked on a design endeavour to transform it into a vibrant and functional space. The result was a visually striking, colourful running track constructed with heavy-duty multi-use artificial turf and a 24mm shock pad, ensuring accessibility for wheelchairs and adapted bikes. Nestled at its heart, a tennis court added an extra layer of versatility to this remarkable transformation.
In summary, this project stands as a testament to our commitment to creating inclusive spaces that not only transcend conventional limitations but also set a new precedent for accessible and vibrant recreational areas. Through creative design, relentless innovation, and unwavering dedication to inclusivity, we turned a vision into reality, forever impacting the lives of those who benefit from these outstanding facilities.
